I wanted to send you and your Dad a note of thanks for allowing me the opportunity to honour this fine steelhead by hooking and landing her with this Bogdan "0". It was a crisp +1C at about 10:15AM as we approached the x pool from upriver (where we previously had had no luck). As we waded around the bend with the sun at our backs we were suddenly face-on with a majestic whitetail buck with a big trophy rack 40 yards immediately downriver from us. We admired him and he casually scrutinized us, and then he continued slowly wading across the river through the tailout of the very run we were about to fish... utterly unpreturbed by our presence. We figured it must be a good karmic sign so we poured a splash of MacCallan 12yr into the clear COLD water for the fish gods and luck, and to thank our good fortune just to be there. On the fifth cast midway down the run, a fresh 6lb chrome hen smacked fly X at the bottom of the swing. After a good fight, some sprints and boils, and a bit of airtime she was brought to hand, admired, and released. The "0" performed like a Rolex - what a sound the outgoing clicker has! It was a fine fish and a moment and a day in the life I will always remember. Thank you Amigo.
Warm regards,
P.S. I will however try to forget falling in the icy river bass-ackwards while fighting another steelie later in the day. Landed the fish (yay!) but got an chilly bootful in my waders. Thankfully, no pictures to commemorate my clumsiness.
