About Fly Fitters
Fly Fitters is the premier fly fishing business along Ontario’s West Coast. We entertain a small number of guests at a time, allowing us to tailor experiences to your preferences. This ensures everyone enjoys an outstanding wilderness fly fishing adventure. Between April and December, the local rivers provide a beautiful setting to fly fish for steelhead, resident trout, summer bass, carp and salmon.
Our livelihood relies on the healthy aquatic ecosystem of the local waterways. We strive to conserve, protect and rehabilitate them. We practice only catch and release for all our fishing adventures. We encourage other anglers to do the same.
Fly Fitters is a member of the Huron Tourism Association since opening in 2002. A day with Fly Fitters compliments any vacation plans on Ontario’s west coast! We are located close to many fabulous restaurants, accommodations, golf and theatre experiences.

About Mike Verhoef
Mike was born and raised along the banks of the Bayfield River in the heart of Huron County. Mike was able to realize his passion and love for the outdoors at a very young age! At the early age of 12 he was introduced to the sport of fly fishing when an uncle gave him a fly rod to use. Luckily, the neighbors stocked pond played venue for his early success with a fly rod as the easily swayed large-mouths instilled the thrill of catching fish on a fly that has stayed with Mike until this very day!
The years following found Mike pursuing all types fish along the local streams and ponds until he had the opportunity to move to Alberta. Mike fulfilled some of his fly fishing dreams and spent countless weekends camping along the streams of the great Rocky Mountains. The memories of native cutthroat trout sipping his dry fly from the surface of a crystal clear mountain stream will stay with him for a lifetime.
Upon moving back to his home waters along Ontario’s west coast in 2002, Mike started his own guided fly fishing business called Fly Fitters!!
Now, with over 25 yrs of experience on the local streams Mike is eager to share his passion and knowledge of the sport with his clients. With Mike’s easy going nature & upbeat personality it wasn’t very long before his clients were enjoying what the waters of SW Ontario had to offer.
Whether it is spring steelhead on a float trip down the scenic Maitland river, a fresh fall salmon walk and wade on the gorgeous Bayfield river, a feisty smallmouth on the Saugeen, a huge carp from the warm spring waters of Georgian Bay or one of the famed brown trout of the Grand river, Mike’s clients enjoy the thrills and true pleasures of this challenging sport. |
